Violence and non-violence within the Far Left: Various militant expressions of radical leftist movements, from the 19th century to present day

Despite having made the news on a few occasions in recent years, the far-left remains rather unfamiliar to the general public in Quebec. Far-left extremism is complex, composed of heterogeneous movements and ideologies, which warrant further examination that might allow us to better understand current debates among both researchers and activists. This webinar offers a historical overview of the main ideological orientations of this type of extremism, in order to improve understanding of certain current issues. The webinar shall identify a few key moments in the history of far-left movements in Quebec and throughout the world, and reflect on some of their violent forms of expression.
