Conference on the phenomenon of street gangs

The Centre received Mr René-André Brisebois, professor in charge of the “Phénomène des gangs” class at the Faculty of Continuing Education at the University of Montreal, as well as a researcher practitioner at the Centre d’expertise jeunes en difficultés du CIUSSS du Centre Sud de l’Île de Montréal, to discuss the phenomenon of street gangs. This presentation allowed an overview of the phenomenon by addressing certain aspects including the methodological issues surrounding the definition, the risk factors associated with the phenomenon, the process of affiliation and disaffiliation to gangs as well as intervention strategies (programs) considered to be the most promising to combat the phenomenon.
