APROACH

The Centre for the Prevention of Radicalization Leading to Violence (CPRLV) is unique in its approach, which favours prevention over repression, psychosocial counselling over prosecution and social ostracization. This multi-sectoral preventive approach reflects a desire to offer the possibility of responding to violent radicalization in ways other than via the police or criminal justice system.

The CPRLV‘s multi-disciplinary team enables the Centre to address all facets and ideological manifestations of radicalization. The CPRLV rejects stigmatization of all kinds, and seeks to prevent all forms of radicalization leading to violence, including hate speech and hate behaviours.
By placing education, public awareness, and prevention at the heart of its approach, the CPRLV seeks to strengthen the resilience of society’s most vulnerable individuals and to promote social togetherness. It is able to rely on the support and collaboration of community and institutional partners as well as of social and health services, which enables it to provide a remarkable breadth of intervention in the field. This vital cooperation is governed by official protocols ensuring a balance between prevention and security is maintained in a fully transparent manner.

The CPRLV is entirely autonomous from a strategic or operational perspective, thereby ensuring the confidentiality and anonymity of the Centre’s support services, which are available to everyone: persons directly affected by radicalization, their family members or friends, witnesses of incidents of radicalization, and anyone else concerned by the issue.

To ensure it has maximum impact, the CPRLV also concentrates on developing of a broad range of resources (training programs, workshops, documentation, tools, etc.) as well as on research planning. Mindful of the importance of using empirical data and recognized scientific expertise as the basis for any action, the CPRLV has chosen to be actively involved in research development and knowledge dissemination.
