Although the process of radicalization leading to violence may extend over a long period of time, it is important to know that it is reversible. In fact, between the moment when radical thoughts first appear and the moment when the individual engages in a violent act, there is a window of opportunity for preventive intervention. Therefore, through positive interaction with the individual, it becomes possible to, on the one hand, eliminate the causes that could tip the scales in favor of radicalization and, on the other hand, strengthen the elements that would allow the individual to resist indoctrination.
The CPRLV has put in place two streams of services to support, listen and counsel individuals affected by radicalization. These services are provided by the professional staff at the CPRLV, who ensures a reassuring and personalized presence.
- The CPRLV’s helpline provides the opportunity to make initial contact and discuss your worries, in total confidentiality.
- On an as needed basis and with your approval, the psychosocial intervention team at CPRLV will be called upon to meet with you, as quickly as possible. Depending on the person’s level of social breakdown and observed behaviours, a direct or an indirect intervention approach may be used.
